Crowns and Bridges to Replace Broken or Missing Teeth

We’ll have you smiling again in no time!

Our experienced team will help you feel more self-assured by capping your damaged tooth with a dental crown and filling a gap of multiple missing teeth with a dental bridge.

What is a Dental Crown and When Do You Need One?

A dental crown is a fixed cover or cap used to protect a decayed, fractured or damaged tooth when a filling won’t address the issue. They are also used to anchor a dental bridge (more information on this below).

How Dental Crowns work

The aim of a dental crown is to restore the natural shape, size and function of your tooth and protect it from any further damage. They are made from porcelain or ceramic materials and are cemented into position. Your dentist will advise on the most suitable options for your crown.

What is a Dental Bridge and Why Do You Need One?

Just as the name implies, a dental bridge is a prosthetic device made up of two or more crowns which fit onto either side of a false tooth. A bridge is most often used where there is a missing tooth. Bridges can also help you avoid future issues with teeth drifting or tilting.

How Dental Bridges work

A quality bridge is made from porcelain and will provide a strong replacement for your natural tooth, as well as a natural look. If well cared for, a quality dental bridge can last up to 20 years or more.

What is the Process for Crowns or Bridges?

We invite you to come in for your first appointment, where we will chat with you about your dental issues and carefully examine your teeth. At your crown preparation appointment, we prepare the tooth/teeth, take impressions and insert a temporary crown or bridge until your custom-made version can be made. Depending on the number of teeth being treated, the procedure may take anywhere from 1.5 hours to more.

Approximately three weeks later, your crown or bridge will come back from the laboratory where it was created, and we will fit it for you. The time required varies, depending on the number of teeth receiving crowns/bridges. Our expert dentists will carefully cement in your crown/bridge and ask you to avoid hard or chewy foods for the first 24 hours.

Caring for Crowns or Bridges

Good oral hygiene is vital, as we definitely don’t want plaque to build up around your teeth, crown or bridge. Of course, you’ll need to clean and floss around your crown or bridge in the same way you would a natural tooth. We suggest you brush your teeth two or three times a day, while taking additional care to floss around your crown or bridge. We will give you instructions on how to clean under your bridge using Superfloss.

In addition, a splint is often a good idea, to help preserve all your teeth and avoid any damage caused by clenching or grinding.

Be sure to attend your regular check-up and clean appointments, where we’ll thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, crown or bridge to ensure optimal oral health.
