If you’re hiding your smile because you’re unhappy with your teeth, we’re here to change that for you. Our goal is to achieve straighter teeth at an affordable price.
Most commonly used in children aged 12-13 years, teenagers and adults, orthodontics can correct crowding, crooked teeth, missing teeth or an overbite which may be causing pressure on your jaw.
Orthodontic treatments focus specifically on improving misaligned teeth and jaw irregularities which may affect the functioning of your teeth and bite. The process involves an orthodontic appliance i.e., braces, being attached to your teeth to realign the teeth and/or jaw. Orthodontic treatment may be used for functional or aesthetic purposes.
At your initial orthodontic consultation, we will assess the situation and take photos and impressions of your mouth. We then send you off for two types of X-rays – an OPG and Lat Ceph (side profile view), which are done by a radiologist. These X-rays are bulk-billed on Medicare and are used by the dentist to check what is happening beneath your gums and within your teeth and to plan your orthodontic treatment.
Once the X-rays come back, Ken puts together an individual plan of what to expect and what needs to happen – every case is different. We go through the treatment plan and cost with you and answer any questions you may have. The appointment where your braces are fitted will take 1.5 hours. Once your braces are on, we arrange for you to return every 6 weeks for orthodontic adjustments. Your adjustment appointments are usually 30 minutes.
When the orthodontic treatment is complete, we will remove your braces, which takes approximately 1 hour. We’ll then ask you to wear a plastic retainer for 3 months, which needs to be worn 23 hours per day, only removing it to eat and brush your teeth. As the name implies, this helps to retain your teeth in place. After 3 months, we will insert a fixed retainer, which is a small wire at the back of your teeth.
In a recent survey, 80% of responders said that straighter teeth gave them the confidence to do things they would not have done before. About a third said straighter teeth helped them achieve a goal, such as applying for a new job, finding a long-term relationship, or even starting their own business.
At the end of your orthodontic treatment, you’ll have straight, aligned and functional teeth and be more confident when you smile – it can change your life!
Ensure your teeth remain clean and healthy while wearing braces, you still need to visit the dentist for regular check-ups and cleans
