Dental Hygienists Helps Maintain Oral Health

Informed Advice on Caring for your Teeth and Gums

The role of our experienced dental hygienist is to advise you on the latest techniques for caring for your teeth and gums. They are specially trained dental professionals who focus on preventative dental health and treating gum disease.

What Can I Expect When I Visit the Dental Hygienist?

The hygienist will carry out an assessment of your oral health habits and your gum health. Your treatment may involve a general scale, clean and polish or further therapeutic treatment as required, such as a deep cleaning to restore your gums to optimal health.

Home hygiene techniques will be discussed and any post-operative experiences you might have and how to mitigate these. We will provide informed advice on the correct brushing technique, tell you whether you’re brushing and flossing in the right places to avoid plaque build-up, and give oral hygiene instructions.

In addition to your scale and clean procedure, your dental hygienist can also take X-rays when required.

Our hygienist will want to see you regularly to ensure your oral health is maintained with the aim of keeping your teeth for life.

Gum disease, or periodontitis, is one of the leading causes of heart disease and can lead to other issues with your health. Our aim is to keep your gums healthy because a gum infection left untreated, can cause serious damage to your teeth and gums, and can eventually destroy the bone which supports your teeth.

Periodontitis often results in the loosening of teeth, which then leads to teeth falling out. While this condition is relatively common, our hygienist will provide advice on how you can prevent it from occurring or advancing.

With some patients who have gum disease, we may recommend 3-monthly visits to ensure we help them to maintain optimal oral hygiene.
